Custom Demographic Subscriber Subset
When filtering on the subscriber demographics, you need to identify those demographics that you want to include as recipients of your email. This is done based on the subscriber profiles by performing a demographic report on the subscribers of the selected subscriber list, segment or group. You then modify the report until you have separated and identified those demographic groups that you want to send your email to. Then you select these groups as recipients of your email.
This screen allows you to execute such a demographic report, in form of a combined profile table and bar-chart report. The table lists the profile fields currently used in the report and each bar in the chart represents one demographic group, where the profile field values that are shown just above the bar define the composition of this group.
You first need to modify the report until you have separated exactly those groups that you want as the recipients of your email. The report is actually the same report as you can find on the Demographic Breakdown tab that is available when you select this list in the subscriber warehouse. So it can also be modified in the same way. Instead of duplicating a description of this report and how to work with it here, please see the description of the Demographic Breakdown report for details. Just keep in mind that this description was written for the corresponding report tab for a subscriber list and therefore sometimes refers to topics that are not applicable here, where you use this report to define the demographic subscriber subset.
Once you have separated and identified each group (i.e. each of these groups has its own bar in the chart), you can then simply select the desired groups by setting the checkbox option to the left of the bar: Each group where the checkbox is checked will be included in the recipients set, while groups where the checkbox is not set will be excluded.
Then click the [OK] button at the bottom of the page to use exactly the selected demographic groups as the recipients of your email. Or click [Cancel] to return to the recipients definition page without selecting recipient groups.
Note: It is an inherent feature of this recipient selection method that you
can only select demographic groups as your recipients for which there already is at least one member
as a subscriber on the selected Subscriber List. This is because the report can only display such
groups for which there is at least one subscriber with a matching profile (i.e. where the bar has at least
a length of "1").
Therefore, you can not use this method to define possible recipients of a demographic group that is currently
not present in the selected Subscriber List, but for which you assume that it may be present at the time
the job will be delivered.
Similarly, the numbers that you see here in the report while defining the recipients only represent the
current numbers. At the time of delivery, these numbers may be different
if new subscribers have subscribed to the list, or if subscribers have unsubscribed or changed their profile values.
Because of this, you can not use this report to determine how many recipients the mail job will have at the time of
delivery.
