Personalized Unsubscribe Action Links
Configurable unsubscribe action links allow you to manage the various types of unsubscribes that are possible for the messages sent with your account or group. Two basic types are available and are described below.
Standard LISTSERV Maestro Subscriber List Unsubscribe
This type of unsubscribe is only available if a message is sent to a Maestro Subscriber List. Selecting this link means that unsubscribe clicks for this message are handled automatically by Maestro: The subscriber is removed from the Subscriber List, protected from accidental re-imports and the unsubscribe is counted under the Unsubscribe Rate metric that is available for reports on this mail job.
Custom Unsubscribe Action Link
Custom unsubscribe link actions forward the user to the configured custom URL and therefore the unsubscribe itself is handled outside of Maestro, which means that the benefits described above are not available.
To personalize the final URL for each recipient, use mail-merging: Any merge field token
(such as for example &EMAIL;
) that is valid for the current mail job can be used in the URL, so that
you can for example easily have a custom unsubscribe URL such as:
https://www.example.com/unsubscribe?user=&EMAIL;
With this URL, the email address of the recipient is forwarded as a parameter to the system acting on the URL.
When defining custom unsubscribe action links, make sure to supply unique one-line short names (used as text in a drop-down menu). Additionally, supply a link description that explains the unsubscribe action to the mail job owner. This description is shown after the link has been selected from the drop-down, thus allowing the user to verify the selection.
After you have finished defining or changing your personalized action links, the [Save Action Links] button is enabled. Click this button to save your changes, otherwise the list of actually available unsubscribe action links remains unchanged.
