Edit Subscriber Importer
- To create a reusable subscriber importer for a subscriber list or list group use the [Create Reusable Importer] button on the corresponding subscriber importers list page of the list or group.
- To change an existing reusable subscriber importer of a list or group use the Edit link in its header section on the corresponding subscriber importers list page.
The Edit Importer wizard lets you define, name and save a subscriber importer. This importer contains settings for import modifications that will be performed on the list and/or list group subscribers in a reusable fashion, so that the same modification can easily be applied several times.
If you do not want to create and save an importer but only want to make a one-time modification via upload, use the Modify by Import wizard instead.
The wizard has eight pages: General, Type, Type Details, Source, Parse Details, Map Fields, Mapping Details, and Summary.
The top row of the wizard displays links to these eight pages. The page that is currently open is highlighted. Depending on the choices made on some of the wizard pages, other pages may become disabled or may be shown in different versions. If a wizard page is disabled, then it means that this page is not necessary with the current choices and can safely be ignored.
Type Page: Define List Group / List Modification Type
This screen defines the general type of the modification. Select the type of modification you want to perform, depending on if you are modifying a list group or list.
Modifying a List Group
The following modification types are available:
Add to List Group: Adds new subscribers to the list group. If the email address of a row in the imported data is not already found in the list group, then the system tries to add a new list group subscriber with the data from that row. To succeed, all required fields must be supplied with a value in the row. Any row with an email address already found in the list group are skipped.
Update in List Group: Updates existing subscribers in the list group. If the email address of a row in the imported data is found in the list group, the system tries to update the existing list group subscriber with the new values from that row. To succeed, at least one additional column of data must be supplied.
Synchronize with List Group: A combination of the above Add and Update. If the email address of a row in the imported data is not found in the list group, then the system tries to add a new list group subscriber with the data from that row. If the address is found in the list group, then the system tries to update the existing subscriber with the new values from that row. Because of the fact that in some cases new list group subscribers are created, all required fields must be supplied with a value in each row.
Full Synchronize with List Group: A combination of the above Synchronize with a removal of all superfluous subscribers in the list group. As above, for any row in the imported data, if the address is not already a list group subscriber, then the system tries to add it as a subscriber. If it is already a list group subscriber, then the system tries to update the existing subscriber. In addition, every existing list group subscriber with an address that is not found in any row of the imported data is removed from the list group and all its lists. In other words, after the full synchronize, the list group contains only subscribers whose addresses were found in the imported data, either freshly added or freshly updated.
Remove from List Group: Removes existing subscribers from the list group. If the email address of a row in the imported data is found in the list group, then that list group subscriber is deleted from the list group and all its lists. For this operation, only an email column is required in the imported data, any additional columns are ignored.
If the subscriber or administrator has changed the subscriber data manually before the import, then the data is only updated if overwriting manual changes is allowed (see the Type Details screen).
Modifying a List
The following modification types are available:
Add to List: Adds new subscribers to the list.
