LISTSERV Maestro 11.0-20 Help Table Of Contents

Define Recipients: Let LISTSERV Select Recipients from a Database or LDAP Directory

  • To access the recipients wizard for a given standard mail job from the open job details pane, select the Summary tab and click on the Edit link in the Recipients section. If you are already on the workflow page of the mail job, simply click on the Define Recipients section.
  • To access the recipients wizard for a given A/B-split job, click the Edit link in the Recipients section of the A/B-split job details page.
Note: If the recipients do not have the desired type "Let LISTSERV Select Recipients from a Database or LDAP Directory", you can change the recipients type on the source page.

The Define Recipients wizard allows the defining of recipients that will receive the email message specified in the job when the job is finally sent.

The wizard has up to five pages: Source, Source Details, Recipients Details, Advanced Settings, and Summary.

The top row of the wizard displays links to these five pages. The page that is currently open is highlighted. Depending on the choices made on some of the wizard pages, other pages may become disabled or may be shown in different versions. If a wizard page is disabled, then it means that this page is not necessary with the current choices and can safely be ignored.

Recipients Details Page: Customize Email, Name and Other Merge Header Names

This screen defines additional details about the recipients selected from the database or LDAP directory.

When LISTSERV's capability of retrieving recipients from a database or LDAP directory is used in LISTSERV Maestro, you must enter the name of the email column. Optionally, you can enter the name of the name column. The email column must appear among the columns that are retrieved by LISTSERV when the SQL statement or LDAP query is executed.

If the data selected from the database contains additional columns which you want to make available as merge fields, then you need to provide them here. Enter the names of all additional recipient data columns that you want to use as mail merge values into the text box, one name per row. Any non-empty row will be interpreted as a merge name (leading and trailing spaces are removed).

Of course, you can only enter merge names which are actually selected from the database.

The merge names entered here become the names of the available mail merge text placeholders. For example, if you use a merge name (enclosed in "&" and ";") in the message body or subject, then this field will be replaced with the corresponding value for the given subscriber.
